Who starts a travel blog during a global pandemic? A couple who lives in a 765 sq ft condo in the middle of Washington DC…with a dog, a cat, and one window. As we watched our 2020 travel plans fade away, we realized that we could (had to!) still find—and share– beauty in our own backyard.

In addition to travel, we share a passion for photography. For capturing the beauty—large and small—in the places we visit. People often ask us how we choose our travel destinations. Because we’re urban dwellers, we don’t typically travel to other large cities. Rather, we look for places that offer unique visual experiences—ones different than we experience on a daily basis. Places that will capture our attention and leave us with vivid memories.

Having said that, we do LIVE in a city! And whether you take it for granted or have yet to find the well-kept secrets, sometimes you forget there’s beauty in your own backyard. For us, it was a little bit of both. Greta is native to the DC area and Kevin has lived in area for almost 15 years. The traffic alone can distort the city’s beauty! But our love of photography has pushed us to explore the area in new ways, looking for new visual experiences. The pandemic challenged us further to find hidden (outdoor) gems within driving distance of DC. And they exist—in abundance!

This blog is designed to share our travel stories with you through photographs. We hope these images inspire you to explore new places, whether it’s near (local parks and gardens) or far (another continent), and discover the beauty this world has to offer.
